Samsung Galaxy Flip7 review

The time has finally come to try this summer’s release: in October I fully joined the Flip camp and started using the new Galaxy Flip7. The seventh-generation folding phone has seen a great many changes. I’ve been a Flip user before and tried both the Galaxy Flip4 and the Galaxy Flip5, but something was always missing, so I never wanted to pick them as my main device. Believe me, this year I came away impressed — the new design and capabilities brought me closer to this phone than ever before. So here are my impressions. Let’s go!

Design

Back in July I had the chance to handle the new flagships, and the Flip7's redesign surprised me. The new 4.1-inch cover screen occupies the entire surface of the folded phone. Samsung even applied display cut-out technology for the cameras and flash, which genuinely gives a sense of modernity and precision. This screen is 0.7 inches larger than the Flip6's and a full 2.2 inches larger than the Flip4's cover display.

The 6.9-inch folding display is slightly bigger, but what matters most to me is its 21:9 aspect ratio, which is much closer to a standard phone. The Flip7’s screen is 13% wider than the Flip6’s, and that’s a big advantage.

The Flip7 is the thinnest Flip yet: 6.5 mm unfolded and 13.7 mm folded.

Durability matters enormously for folding devices, so the Flip7 is not only thin but tough. The metal body and hinge are made from sturdy Armor Aluminum. The cover screen and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the device carries an IP48 rating against dust and water. The power and volume buttons sit on the right-hand side. The power button houses the fingerprint reader, though to be honest it wasn't especially comfortable to use with a case on.

In Lithuania the Flip7 comes in four colours: Blue, Black, Coral Red (the one I tested) and Mint. Prices start at €1,149 for the 256 GB model and €1,259 for 512 GB (November 2025, samsung.lt).

Displays

The Flip7 has two displays: a 4.1-inch cover screen and a 6.9-inch main one. The first Galaxy Z Flip (launched in 2020) had a cover screen of just 1.1 inches, so over a few years Samsung has expanded it as far as it will go. This is the first Flip with an Infinity Flex Window, its display cut precisely around the cameras. The cover screen's 120 Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nit peak brightness match the main display. The image here is smooth and bright even in direct sunlight. You can add all sorts of widgets to the cover screen, take selfies, use AI features, reply to messages and even force apps to run on it. Watching YouTube videos or Instagram Stories on such a small screen is a curious experience.

The folding display, as I mentioned, is bigger and wider. I sincerely thank Samsung for this decision, because the Flip7's screen is now a more comfortable 21:9 shape, which makes the keyboard far easier to use and stops all the content feeling squashed. The 6.9-inch panel has a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness. A large, smooth screen suits films, intense gaming sessions and long evenings of doomscrolling alike.

Much more interesting is the folding display technology. This year it uses a thinner, more reliable Armor FlexHinge. The crease is smaller still — practically invisible, though you can feel it with a finger. I've noticed the crease becoming more pronounced over time, so I'm curious how the display will look after a year. A protective plastic frame surrounds the screen, with raised bumpers at the fold that I hadn't seen on previous models. The folding display itself is made from ultra thin glass (UTG) and covered with a better quality protective film that also covers the front camera.

Cameras

We already know about Flex mode, the high selfie quality you get from using the main cameras, and other features — but the Flip7 takes them to a new level. The phone uses the same sensors as last year's Flip6: a 50 MP main, a 12 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP front camera.

The larger cover screen lets you frame photos and video even more precisely. With Flex mode you can stand the phone on any flat surface and capture shots from striking angles. It's genuinely convenient for filming "day in the life" videos, since you don't need to carry an extra tripod. Flex mode is the single most useful advantage of the Flip design.

I won’t hide it: camera quality falls well short of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, especially at night. I noticed a lack of detail and slower focusing. Zoom quality suffers too, because the Flip7 has no dedicated telephoto lens.

Video quality is very good. Daytime footage is bright and clear, though in poor lighting I’d want less background noise. All the same, the Flip7 is excellent for content creation.

Performance and battery

Inside the Flip7 sits an Exynos 2500 chip. This is the first Flip phone with a Samsung-made processor rather than a Snapdragon. You're probably already thinking "oh no, Exynos again!" — but this time the processor didn't disappoint me. Yes, comparing benchmark scores shows it lagging behind, but the chip itself performs really well: filming and intense gaming sessions run smoothly without stutter, and the back barely warms up.

Samsung has clearly worked on processor efficiency, because with its new 4,300 mAh battery the Flip7 lasts up to two days — a big leap over previous models. In my view battery life falls only slightly short of the S25 Ultra.

Artificial intelligence

The AI features on the phone are essentially identical to those on other Samsung flagships. The Flip7's cover screen lets you use the Gemini assistant without opening the device, which is very convenient — you can ask questions, turn on the main cameras with Gemini Live and ask the assistant to weigh in on your outfit. Gemini is most useful to me while travelling, when I need directions, a menu translated or help deciding what to eat.

I particularly like starting the day with the Now Brief summary. On the Flip7's cover screen you can check the most important information: sleep quality and energy level, the weather, upcoming events, and photos from trips and other moments to brighten the morning. The Now Bar conveniently shows not just Now Brief but various active apps too, including workouts, music, timers and more.

The Flip7 also ships with Samsung’s own Galaxy AI features, such as Live Translate, Note Assist for summarising notes, and Object Eraser for removing unwanted objects from photos.

One UI

Samsung took a long time with the One UI 7 update this year, but followed it very quickly with a new version. The Flip7 arrives running One UI 8 and Android 16. From now on we'll probably see a new update cycle, with the latest One UI version launching alongside the Flip and Fold devices.

One UI 8 doesn’t differ hugely from One UI 7, but design and stability bugs have been fixed and animations run even more smoothly. The biggest changes are in lock screen editing: the new clock adapts its shape to the person or animal in your photo. Galaxy Buds settings have also moved into the phone’s settings, so you no longer need the separate Galaxy Wearable app. That’s considerably more convenient.

I almost forgot to mention that the Flip7 has DeX mode, which previous Flip models lacked. Connect the phone to an external monitor or TV and you get a desktop experience. One UI 8 changed the DeX design so it no longer resembles a conventional desktop UI, but window management works better and more comfortably.

Like most Samsung devices released since 2024, the Flip7 promises up to seven years of OS and security updates, so you'll be able to use your phone for a long time and, most importantly, safely.

Verdict: pros and cons

Do I recommend the Flip7 to you? The short answer is YES. I even considered upgrading to a Flip7 myself this year. The enlarged cover and main displays improve the experience, while up to two days of battery life, DeX and the AI features will keep you productive all day. I can say with confidence that Samsung has solved most of the shortcomings, and the Flip7 is the most modern and capable folding phone on the market. So if you have an older Flip, or you want something new and stylish, this is the perfect year to upgrade and enjoy the best Galaxy experience with the Flip7.
